I don't drunk dial LJ very well when I get home Monday night, post whilst still in sedated post-MRI anxiety-ridden bliss, and then fail to answer all of your questions, do I? Although I'll always treasure frankie23's comment demanding more blogging drunkfail* from me ( Read more... )

Sorry didn't read the S_D repost, but after reading his "What racism, we elected Obama didn't we?" post right before his S_D blow up I'm avoiding anything by PAD online. Same as Willingham. And I actually read books by Willingham, the giant ass...

And the constant failure by Shetterly and his wife and the others makes me sad. I don't read Bear, but Shetteryly's Dogland is a really good book and his wife's Territory was one of my favorites from last year. Really it feels like Orson Scott Card again. Where I still love Ender's Game, but I can't see supporting him in anyway ever again...

Yes. I know that some people insist that a writer's/artist's real life actions and opinions should have no bearing on the artistic evaluation and validity of their work (I can already hear thehefner screaming "BUT...BUT...BUT.."), but my personal enjoyment of a creator's work tends to be diminished when I find out that they're explicitly anything that sounds like homophobia, racism, sexism, etc. I may still consume their work, but I find it hard to divorce my experience of their work from their stated opinions and beliefs. There's a bleed, as it were.

These people who interpret DIAF literally, how do they handle other acronyms? I could type AFK and they would be stunned into incomprehension. "But if he was away from the keyboard, how could he type that?"

And that would be the FIRST real laugh I've been able to have about this AT ALL. Thank you, dear. <3

Somewhere in all that was a tiny logic pothole that I fell in and still cannot climb out of; namely, the idea that just because you can find out what someone's name is on Google means you can publish it despite their stated desires to remain pseudonymous in a given situation. This is too much like the common argument I hear that runs something like "Well, [X] isn't illegal, so I can do it," where [X] = something that isn't illegal but is rude/mean/hurtful/just plain inconsiderate.

And I can't even get into the piles of privilege banking up. My head hurts.

Yes, this. As a lifelong reader of science fiction and fantasy, this has left such a horrible taste in my mouth. Every time I see the Tor imprint logo on anything now I literally feel sick.

Christ, 2009 has had a lot of fail in it.

RaceFail being the most EPIC FAIL of 2009 thus far on LJ, at least in my humble opinion. The fallout has now moved far beyond words. It's now gotten to white writers, editors, and fans either explicitly or implicitly supporting the harming of people professionally or personally because they spoke out against racism in all of the debates on various LJs. It's disgusting. It's also probably against LJ's TOS.

** This means that I should post more Atomic Robo, obviously, although [info]atomic_robo needs to weigh in on this.

Go for it. Hell, if you can't find a decent source, e-mail me with issue and page numbers and I'll make sure you've got high quality images.
