Well I don't know. Don't most men think of women as meat anyway? Perhaps the vampire paradigm is more realistic than we give it credit for. Physical appetite is maybe a rather apt metaphor for sexual appetite!

Most monsters in fables or fairy tales serve as metaphors for the darker side of human nature, and, as monsters, are illogical if taken literally. I think the vampire is such, and I think that, taken symbolically, the female attraction to him is far too easy to explain. Women after all have a tendency to be attracted to violent, aggressive, or tortured men. We believe we can fix them, or find their inner beauty, as the 'Beauty and the Beast' paradigm suggests.
