blarg. garb.

OK great LJ hive-mind. I am in need of some guidance. I'm gonna make a tunic, and I'd like it to be a documentable garment, anglo-saxon, circa 1000. I'm looking for patterns/pictures online and I see lots of books (of which I have none) so I would like to know what sources other sewer-types-who-document might use for historically accurate patterns ( Read more... )

The rectangular pattern that Reginleif gave you will work perfectly well. For really good pictures to go by, to the library I send you: Cloth and Clothing in Early Anglo-Saxoan England by Penelope Walton Rogers
ISBN 978-1-902771-54-0
I'd be happy to have you rifle through my copy, if you're planning to be down here for a visit soon, but it's not on my list of lend-able books. sorry.

No problem, I'd just as happily loan it from the library. I tend to keep books that friends loan to me, not maliciously, mostly accidentally :) That and we're probably not heading down your way until Coronation I think...

ha ha! Actually, it kind of does, which I meant to warn you of before Jim went and gave them to Craig...
I just need to be reminded, and once we've watched them I'll make sure you get them back :) But I see you a lot throughout the year, so I'll have plenty of opportunities to return them!

Cloth and clothing in Anglo-Saxon england is on amazon for only $23 :)
I'd highly recommend Dress in Anglo-Saxon England.

Sorry for invading your journal!
