The story puts such a different spin on this painting... after I read it I went back to the painting and could completely see the grief and melancholy behind the pleasant outdoor scene.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't have thought to write it like this if I hadn't been curious about what "The Decameron" was and what the painting was meant to be about. As it turns out, sometimes a little research was the ticket to inspiration.
