He's been actually swimming during lunch break around the year for 6-7 years... They have a small lake next to the research station, so it takes 2 minutes to go down. I don't take after my parents in ice swimming (well, mum goes to swim until their lake freezes... *shudders*

Thanks! It's usually frozen around Christmas, that's why it looked so exotic to me, too.

The photo of the river is SO beautiful! I looks almost like a painting -- wintry and still, and blurring into the distance.

The first picture is really stuning! I thought there was some effect on it at first, because it looked so unreal.

Thanks! The whole scenery was very unreal when we were there: the sun behind the thick clouds was about to go down so the light was soft and almost palpable... I'm surprised the photo came out sharp with so little light.
