of sunrise and coffee, or failure attempt #2 at college au
"Awake?"
Junghwan groaned a vague agreement as light blinded him even through closed eyelids-at least until the tell-tale scent of coffee registered in his barely-conscious mind. 'Awake,' his mind agreed. "Nnnghnotreally," his mouth denied.
A laugh sounded from above him, and Junghwan squeezed his eyes shut as if it would give him an extra few minutes of sleep before giving in and blinking blearily at what was a nondescript blur. Right. Glasses. Junghwan reached over to the dresser-his hand met with air instead, and Sunwoo laughed again.
Oh. Sunwoo.
"Looking for these?"
Junghwan reached up and fumbled the glasses out of Sunwoo's hand thankfully-but wordlessly. Words were not for mornings. Especially not mornings when he couldn't see. He blinked, and Sunwoo blinked into focus. "Good morning," he said.
Sunwoo grinned. "Did you know you tried to get Dongwoo hyung to strip," he said by way of greeting, handing Junghwan a cup of coffee.
"Can you not remind me?" Junghwan groaned, burying his face into the coffee mug instead.
"Okay," Sunwoo agreed, hopping onto the window ledge nursing his own cup of coffee. "By the way this is my room. In case you haven't figured out yet."
"Was going to ask about that," Junghwan admitted. The aroma of the coffee was working faster than the coffee itself-and he just had to be thankful hangovers had never really been his thing.
"When your room's just next door?"
"...Yes."
"Your idea," Sunwoo supplied.
"What," Junghwan deadpanned. "Why."
Sunwoo laughed again, before hopping down and pulling the blankets off of Junghwan and throwing them aside. "C'mere," he said, dragging Junghwan off the bed by the wrist. Junghwan squawked indignantly in an effort to not spill the coffee, but this problem was solved when Sunwoo pulled the cup out of his hand and left them both on the bed.
Junghwan eyed them warily. "They'll spill."
"No they won't," Sunwoo said, pulling Junghwan to the window. Which had its blinds drawn, Junghwan suddenly noticed. So the light was the lamp. Only. Which Sunwoo had turned on. In his face.
"Annoying," Junghwan said, with a nod at the lightswitch and a light shove.
"Hey!" Sunwoo protested. "I'm doing this for you!"
"Really?" Junghwan asked skeptically, and was rewarded with an elbow in the ribs as Sunwoo drew the blinds across the window.
It was still mostly dark, and Junghwan had to blink a few times to be sure he was seeing that part right. A pink tinge had run itself across the horizon, and Junghwan had never been more glad for the field behind their dorms. "Sunrise," Junghwan said quietly, because he doubted he'd slept an entire day away. He didn't feel awake enough for that.
"Mm," Sunwoo agreed beside him.
Sunrise was slow-or Junghwan thought. It was slow in its pink-purple-blue spilling across the upper reaches of sky like an upended puddle, lightly dying the violet expanses with the occasional extra brush against a cloud-this one pink, this one just a little darker, this one just a little lighter, a little closer to white. And then Sunwoo nudged him, a quiet push against his shoulder, and Junghwan brought his attention back to the skyline, all red and orange and all sorts of fire and he had to blink because-
"You said you wanted to watch sunrise," Sunwoo said. Junghwan tore his eyes away to look at him. Instead, all he saw was the dark afterimage of a quiet explosion. Junghwan blinked. Sunwoo coughed. "Together," he clarified.
"I did?" Junghwan said dumbly, and wished right away he could take it back. "I mean-"
"No, it's-"
"Cha Sunwoo."
Sunwoo shook his head and turned back to the window, his hands clutching at the sill as he leaned towards the pane. "You forgot, huh?" he commented, breath fogging patterns against the glass.
Junghwan shrugged, biting at his lip. "I don't know," he admitted, staring resolutely at the glass. "I don't know."
He caught Sunwoo's reflection glancing down suddenly, and Junghwan stopped a half-hearted swallow, tightening his grip on Sunwoo's hand before quickly letting go and making a desperate grab towards the bed.
"You drink your coffee black?" he asked, stopped abruptly short.
Sunwoo laughed. "Yeah?"
"Oh," Junghwan said, scooping his up from the mattress. "Maybe I should too."
"Why?"
Junghwan laughed here, loud like he always was. "Just because," he explained. "Just because."
