Something I've always wondered about...

Okay, time to add something different to get rid of that emo crap! Okay so I know there's artists on my friends list, people who frequent deviantArt or have personal webpages for their art and all that good stuff. So I have a question for everyone, something that I've wondered about for some time now...Why is it people look at someone differenty, ( Read more... )

I'm not sure, to be honest, but it kind of annoys me. My guess has always been elitist snobbery, because it's somehow a lesser art form.

I wonder about that elitist thing myself too. I find it to be so sad, I've found beautiful art and so many different art forms outside of anime, hell I've found gorgeous artwork in anthro art work and there's a lot in the whole furry scene I don't get, but I try very hard not to be snobby towards anyone.

Yeah. There's a lot of different art forms, and plenty of nice stuff in most forms (though it's completely past me how people can splatter paint on a canvas and get it hung in a museum. Definitely not art by my definition.) I hate elitism.

Or better yet, someone makes a dot on a canvas and calls it art o_O!

I don't understand it either. My best friend attends a school for arts and humanities, and they really scoff that style. I hate it.

That's horrible! If people were a little more open to it, I'd be doing something art related as a minor, either way, I want to study graphic art ;_;!

Eh, I really don't care what people say about it. They have a right to their own opinion, so long as they don't try to "push their religion" on me so to speak. I just draw what I want, regardless.

To me it just makes sense to draw in that style since it fits better with my story ideas ... that's if I ever actually start working on my comic/manga ideas ... e.e;

I agree, you have your thing and I have mine. If we do the same thing and/or we like the stuff we make, great, if not, life goes on. And yes work on your comics and update your site D:!

Hmm...well, as a person who's got a foot in both areas (or so I'd like to think...), I could state what I think, though it may not be much ( ... )

You make a beautiful point :D! One thing that always gets me about that easy way is, it's like they don't feel that an anime artist needs to know something about anatomy in order to draw well. Think of comparing a realistically drawn female compared to an anime female. It's like with anime, you need to have longer limbs, XBOX HUEG eyes and hair colours that go beyond what is natural, but still there are anatomy limits, you still need to know where to place the eyes, where to draw a character's hair line and I could go on and on. So yeah it's not any easier and still takes some knowledge, I feel people should try and remember that before claiming any style is easer.

You have trouble cel-shading :O?!? If it's anything, for the longest while, I was using photoshop's pen tool and decided to stop that since it made the shadows look too angular D:. But here are some tutorials on cel-shading!

What's kind of sad about the animu thing is the artist themselves. To be honest, most of these people I've seen on dA can't take critique, don't want critique and REFUSE to listen to anyone about the improvement of their art. I mean, it's kind of sad, but it almost seems like they do it to themselves ( ... )

THIS!!! As much as it hurts, it really does help. Even just talking to people on how to do something, I've found myself looking through critiques and even snark posts on dAsnark to remind myself of things I should avoid. People really need to take their heads out of their asses and try and learn something .___.!

On the other spectrum, though, I don't think that these elitist bastages should snub their noses up at us animu artists (even though I'm a half-y~ Wahahaha). My art teacher said I'd never go anywhere in life drawing how I did or what I did. He also said that I'd never amount to anything if I kept drawing in the 'anime style.' I dunno if I've proved him wrong just yet, but I've got a website~! And I get more hits on my webpage ( ... )

People that say it's "the easy way" have obviously never tried it. It's a difficult art form to get right (many well known artists don't get it right and their characters look like shit as a result). Art is hard. Period. No matter what style.

They look down on it because it's popular, basically. But they should really blame Disney for that one.

I totally was thinking of how some people say Osamu Tezuka was inspired by Mickey Mouse. And Amen to that, doesn't matter the art form, NOTHING is easy in terms of art, nothing.

Also, IZ DAT SUM JOSEPHINE BAKER BANANA DANCING I SEE :O?
