Time for a non-locked entry! On the Anime North front I went and posted on a thread for artists who want tables and are hoping for someone willing to partner up with them . So far I've only had one offer that unfortunately fell through, but I still have hope for the check-in day. From the looks of it, only 2 or 3 managed to find someone to buddy ( Read more... )

Wannabe-Japanese people scare me. If they're over, say, 15 years old anyway, I'm of the opinion that you should know better by then. Ha ha o_o I was a slight Weaboo when I was a teenager; I did the usual drawing-anime-without-knowing-the-fundamentals-of-art thing, and occasionally used gratuitous Japanese honorifics. I still have lots of Asian-inspired art and knickknacks in my house too. I'm just glad I didn't have the Internet when I was young or I would have made such a fool of myself. Such a fool. >_

Funny enough it was the "reafu" internet handle that I came up with back then. I was visiting this Sailor Moon site that claimed it could translate your name into Japanese. So I throw in "Leah" and it tells me that's "Reafu", fast forward to...2007 I think and a girl who majored in Japanese and has her phD in the language offers professional translations and has a name generator. I throw in "Leah" again and it gives me "Riia"(big hint to how I pronounce my name...it's not "Lay-uh" ;__;!). If I knew about how Japanese people spell things phonetically and will put in weird letters to get things to "sound" like english back then as I do now, it would have helped. And don't even get me started on drawing anime without getting the basics of anatomy. I used to start with drawing some ridiculous, stereotypical anime hairstlye(remember how in the mid-90's characters with those gravity defying bangs was popular? I did that a lot) and thought I was awesome for it! I'm so glad I've learned the error of my ways, it may be a slow transition ( ... )

It was a friend who told me to start with the hair first, but then he was one of those crazy talented, "I don't need to draw the basic anatomy cause I have it all right" guys...and he mostly drew hentai XD. Eyes first huh? I've only seen one person minji do that during a livestream. I guess once you fully grasp everything you can cheat a little bit and not go through all the steps...
