Because I'm doing something that I rarely do, and am using this journal to promote my political agenda regarding gay rights.

In case you didn't know, I am all for them. Hence the gay laser gun of justiceThis morning, I was downcast to discover that the California court upheld Proposition 8--despite it clearly contradicting the constitution in both ( Read more... )

I get so annoyed with Cali.
They allow it, then take it back.

I think if people truly love eachother and want to marry, let 'em.
Why should hetro's be the only ones?
It isn't fair.
And, I get so annoyed when people say "It's against the bible!" crap... >_<
Alot of things are against the bible, yet people still commit these sins day in, and day out.

My main reason for hating the "it's in the bible" excuse is that there are TONS of things that are in the bible that aren't necessarily right by association--rape, child marriages, genocide, carrying around sticks with which to dig a hole in the ground to shit in, etc. If you're going to do the bible gig, you can't just pick and chose the parts you support--it's either you go whole hog and support everything, or you admit that there are inherent fallacies in the bible and therefore accept that it is not the foremost source for moral decision-making.

I concur!
I, myself am not a religious person.
Strange thing, my fiance is incredibly religious.
He likes to use the "It's in the bible" Alot, it drives me nuts.

I know it's tough, but look at the details. The contest against Prop 8 was on a shakey technicality, somebody needs to attack the content, not the method.

Furthermore, the court did not nullify marriages that had been issued at the time the proposition passed.

Also, they redefined those affected as narrowly as possible.

I'm not saying it's good; but it's not quite as bad as I see a lot of people commenting.

The courts obviously want to rescind it substantively, but they can't legally do that on thin technical argument....

Very true--now those that were legally married before can stay married. Just. Gah. Some part of me can't help but think it's little consolation, and it reminds me of the laws surrounding blood donations -_-

Yeah; it's definitely not a perfect situation, but it's still malleable--so don't lose heart!

*crosses fingers that gay marriage will one day be legal in all states of the US*!!! California really surprised me, though my view is highly skewed as most of my family and friends are liberals located in the Bay Area.

I never understood that to begin with.
I mean, wasn't it legal at one point? If they went so far as to make it legal in the first place, why take three huge steps back and change their minds?
I did wake up to that news this morning, too. It saddened me. Out of all the states in this nation, you'd think Cali would be one of the more accepting ones.

It wasn't that it was legal, there was just no stipulation at all on how to interpret the constitution in cases of gay marriage. Then the issue got stirred up to take people's minds off of the oil crisis, and...well, shit happened. It was legal, then it wasn't, then it was, then it wasn't, then it was, then it wasn't, and--I can't follow it sometimes.

...I say this as a Californian, btw (because that's what I am, though this whole affair makes me want to go somewhere else for a while)
