February 15th,

Dear Diary,

I miss Naruto.

Sakura

P.S. I miss him, too.
P.P.S. Please stop reading my diary, Kakashi-sensei.

Breakfast consisted of fresh eggs from the few chickens they decided to bring along with them in the cart - the one that Sakura didn't chuck at Kakashi. Attached to that cart was a horse they found a few miles after they finished burying and marking the graves of all of the charred and mutilated bodies they could find. It had been particularly hard for Sakura to dig the graves of the children, so Kakashi had given her the duty of finding proper grave markers and fixing the dead for a proper burial.

Sakura didn't have the heart to tell him that he was making it worse.

When they were finished with that, they moved on.  And then they passed a puppy.

"Oh, come on, Kakashi-sensei - look at him!  He's so cute!" Sakura cooed, shoving the mangy canine in his face, like he actually wanted it there.  It had dog breath, terrible dog breath.  This is why he made Pakkun eat all those doggy-safe mints.

Kakashi winced, "No.  He'll scare the chickens."

"Come on, you're a dog person, aren't you, sensei?"

The Copy Nin frowned, "I am." he paused, "But that is a rat."

"Oh, and I suppose Pakkun is the cutest dog ever?" she retorted hotly.

"He is cute!" Kakashi insisted, horrified that Sakura suggested otherwise. "Besides, Pakkun knows not to eat chickens unless I tell him to; this dog doesn't know his feet from his hand."

"He's a dog." she spat.

"It'll disturb the chickens and they won't lay eggs."

"I hate chickens." she muttered, shoulder dropping miserably.

God, she was so cute. "The chickens hate you, too." he added cheerfully, eye creasing upwards, showing her just how exactly blissful he was feeling this wonderfully peaceful morning.  And it was peaceful.  No people around, but Sakura.  Yup, life was -

"Well, I hate you!" she shot back, taking the poor puppy along with her.

- damnit.

At dinner, when Sakura had finally cooled down (because Kakashi relented and let her keep the stupid mutt), around the campfire Sakura was furiously scribbling away at her diary.  Kakashi inwardly regretted the decision.  Now she was spending time with the book more than him, thus delaying the repopulating and therefore making him sterile.  Obviously.  Because that's how it works.

Genetics and anything other then sex-related biology was lost on him.

When she finally finished angrily jotting down her teenage thoughts, Kakashi grabbed it and wrote a response of his own, before grinning underneath his mask and handing it back to her.  Sometimes, Sakura really hated Kakashi.

"Jerk." she muttered.

"Ah, but did you look inside?"

Sakura sneered at him, ripped open the book and opened her mouth to retort when she found a flower - freshly picked - set delicately between the pages.

"You're late." she grumbled before trudging off to bed.

Kakashi rested his chin in the palm of his hand and sighed.  This was going to be difficult.

Dear Diary,

Kakashi-sensei let me keep Achi-chan!  He's so cute!  But Kakashi-sensei is a jerk.  You read that, sensei?  You are a JERK.  JERK!  But I guess I'm glad I have someone I know around since everyone else is... gone.

I really miss Naruto.  By now, he would be showering me with late Valentine's day presents, and Yamato-taichou would be teasing him about not being subtle.  At all.  I miss the way Naruto would get mad at Sai for saying something offensive without even knowing it.  I miss punching Sai for saying it.

I miss Sasuke.

I'm glad I don't have to miss you, too, Kakashi-sensei.

Love, Sakura.
and Achi-chan.

P.S. Happy Valentine's Day, Sakura.  For what it's worth, I'm glad I don't have to miss you, too.
P.P.S. Thanks for the flower, it's pretty.  AND STOP READING MY DIARY.
