Written for Dreamwidth user jb_slasher’s prompt. I hope this was at least kind of what you were after.
As Carly left her garden, which had been carefully designed so it wouldn’t be affected by the snow, she pulled her gloves on. It was autumn in there, still, and the difference between the two seasons was obvious. During the short months it had been summer going from one place to the other was even worse, but it was something she was learning to cope with. The garden helped too many people for her to let anything keep her from it. Unsurprisingly it had snowed during the time she was gardening, so she had more snow to deal with, and, as she looked towards her house, possibly one of the Time Keepers.
The Time Keepers had been fascinated with Carly ever since they realised what she could do. Aerith had been dealing with winter for so long that having someone who could change the season, no matter how small an area it was, was one of the most important things that had happened. She knew they wanted to work out exactly how she had got her power and give it to others, but she didn’t think that was going to be possible, and no one else had come forward after she was found out. It was likely they were keeping a very low profile, instead of having to deal with a group of people no one really trusted.
“Good afternoon, Carly,” the Time Keeper said. Phirun was one that she’d dealt with before, so it wasn’t so much of a problem finding him on her doorstep. “How are things going?”
“As well as can be expected.” Learning the earth was going to take a while longer, as Carly experimented with what she could and couldn’t grow, because no one knew anything about the other seasons of the year. “It’s not long since I allowed the garden to move onto autumn and I expect to keep it there for some time before I move onto another season.”
“We have a request.”
Carly sighed. “What is it?” she asked, as she pulled her door key our of her pocket.
“We’d like it if you could keep the garden in either autumn or summer, although autumn is our preference. At the market it was those foods that sold the best and it appears to be helping morale.” Phirun bit his lip, looking unsure. “I’m sorry that I have to ask, but you have an ability that is more help than any that we have and we can’t find anyone else who has the same power as you.”
“They probably exist.” Carly opened the door and stepped into her warm house. “Do you want to come in and have a cup of tea?”
Phirun looked even more unsure. “I probably shouldn’t,” he replied, sighing. “Fraternising with anyone outside the Time Keepers is frowned upon, but…” He smiled at Carly. “I think I will. I’ll tell them I was talking to you about the garden.”
Summoning a smile, Carly stepped back to let Phirun into the house. She wasn’t sure she’d wanted him to accept her invitation, but having an acquaintance who was a part of the Time Keepers could be helpful. Once he was in she pulled the door closed, took her gloves off, and walked towards the kitchen.
