Okay so I must say this did start out as a drabble written when I couldn't sleep, but I am like Smeyer, and I can't condense shit. But I'm posting it anyway. IDC

Her hand drifted to her stomach, panic setting in as realisation hit her like a ton of bricks. Not far away, Edward still hadn't moved; a sitting statue with an expression so tortured it would have been comical if the situation wasn't so serious. It put her in mind of those bad sitcoms she had watched with Renee, when a woman springs the news on an unsuspecting bachelor that he was going to be a father.

She had never seriously considered children, especially since she had fallen in love with a vampire and thought it was impossible. That desire she had heard expressed by other people, longing to be a mother...she had never experienced it. She had mothered her parents for too long, and revelled in a relationship in which she was taken care of for a change ( ... )

If Bella had expected to have some kind of bond with the child in her, she was sorely mistaken. No, her thoughts were still full of Edward, Edward, Edward. She never had, and never would need more than him. He was watching her, like always, as her fingertips pressed into her too hard stomach, his wince matching hers as she felt the bruises. “I'm sure, Edward.” Bella's voice was quiet, but the conviction was strong. “I wasn't sure if I could get rid of it...it was made from you after all.” He opened his mouth to say something, but she held up her free hand to cut him off. “I know what you're going to say - an abomination, right? But...I don't know about that. All I knew is that I couldn't stand to see what it was doing to you. And I had made my decision about children a long time ago, I don't really know why I held on. I think I was waiting for something - one way or another - to tell me what the right decision was. But I know I can't love anyone more than I love you.” She shifted uncomfortably, and he noticed her swallowing hard. “You saved me. Again ( ... )

oh my god. there's a reason why i love when you write e/b, and this is it. this. is. it. this is exactly what SHOULD have happened, what WOULD have happened if bella had actually been in-character during the book at all.

it's perfect, i love it. i'm so glad fail!nessie died, even if it was only in a fic -- because you made me believe it.

God, you have no idea how much I wish this would've happened in the book. That thing was so unnecessary... This was great, amazing job!

Hee. I'm not an E/B fan but this just made so much sense to me. Because Bella, self-sacrificing martyring Bella, would never let Edward go through the pain he goes through. And Rosalie wouldn't just be happy with Bella having a child. And I really liked this. <3
