If you picture the UK then London is near the very bottom and Edinburgh is near the very top. (that's as good as my geography gets!) It looks like a lot of distance but it's only bout 6 hour train ride.
Ooh, good luck with that! I can't even understand the Scottish accent, so I've generally cancelled that option out on my life's to-do list. ;) But how exciting; I've heard great things about Edinburgh so I hope it's a blast!
I've been to Edinburgh twice before, once on hols and more recently on new years eve and had a blast both times. Also have a scottish friend (who i'll be staying with) and we always crack up at her accent and the misunderstanding that we hear. I can understand most things (usually!) but living there? that might be a different story!
