"Jongin, you know how I'm seeing someone, right?" Jongin's mother brought up to him one day. Jongin looked up from his manga.
"Yeah?" Jongin responded.
"He asked me to marry him," his mother continued, "And I agreed." He knew this would happen at some point. His mother had been dating this guy for about two years and it was the longest relationship his mother had ever been in since his father left. The guy was a nice guy and Jongin was definitely happy for his mother. He smiled and put down his manga. He stood up and hugged his mother.
"Congrats, Mom," Jongin told her.
--
A girl, he wasn't entirely sure who she was, latched onto his arm and batted her eyelashes at him. "Oppa, we're going to the ice cream shop today, right?"
Jongin didn't recall promising her to go to the ice cream shop today. Heck, he didn't recall promising anyone to go to the ice cream shop. In fact, he actually had to go straight home to meet his mother and her to-be husband. He carefully removed the girl's body from his arm and gave her one of his killer smiles. "Sorry, but something unexpected came up. I'm having a special dinner with my mother tonight." He wasn't lying.
The girl swooned and said, "Okay, Oppa. Maybe next time!" She skipped off in another direction leaving Jongin to go home in peace.
Jongin opened the door to his home and saw his mother, her husband-to-be, and an unfamiliar face already sitting on the couch. The stranger was wearing his school's uniform and looked to be younger than Jongin with his big eyes and heart-shaped lips. His hair was a soft black that was swept to the side and his skin looked pale as snow. If there was one word to describe him, it would be 'cute.'
"Oh, Jongin. You're home!" his mother chimed. She gestured over to his soon-to-be-father and the stranger. "You've already met Kyunghan, but meet Kyungsoo, your new brother." Kyungsoo's father nudged him and Kyungsoo waved shyly.
"Hey, Kyungsoo. I'm Jongin," Jongin introduced himself and held out his hand for Kyungsoo to shake.
Kyungsoo shook his hand and replied, "I know you."
Jongin looked confused. "What?"
"Well, I know of you," Kyungsoo clarified. "I go to your school." Jongin figured that much since Kyungsoo was wearing his school's uniform.
"How come I never see you around?"
"It's because I'm in the year above you." No way, Jongin thought. He furrowed eyebrows.
"Then how do you know of me?" Jongin asked. He talked to people within his grade, but rarely to upperclassmen.
"You're pretty popular," Kyungsoo answered and Jongin laughed. He never considered himself popular despite what the entire school said. He was only a sixteen year old boy who still watched Pororo and wore Spongebob boxers.
"That's only because they don't know how lame I am," Jongin said half-joking, half- seriously. Kyungsoo politely smiled before a rough cough interrupted them.
"Kyungsoo, Jungah and I talked it out and decided that we're moving here after the wedding," Kyungsoo's father told him. "This place is must bigger than our current home and you can have a bigger room."
"That's fine," Kyungsoo said. "I can't wait." Jongin couldn't wait either.
--
The preparations for the wedding were okay in Jongin's opinion. His mother was thankfully not a bridezilla and tuxedo fitting went on without any major complications. During this time, he took the time to get to know Kyungsoo. He found that Kyungsoo was not only cut, but very fun, caring, and occasionally scary (he pitied the poor woman on the receiving end of Kyungsoo's glare). Before Jongin knew it, Jongin's mother was happily married and they were helping move boxes into their home. Jongin saw Kyungsoo struggling to hold two boxes, so he removed the box on top.
"Let me help you out," Jongin told his new stepbrother. Kyungsoo nodded and stared at him. Jongin turned away and walked upstairs, feeling suddenly hot. As soon as he set the box down in Kyungsoo's new room, he fanned himself and took off his shirt, totally forgetting that Kyungsoo was in the room. "Mom, can you turn on the AC, it's hot!" he hollered. He finally noticed Kyungsoo in the room with him with red cheeks, still holding his box. He walked over and plucked the box from Kyungsoo's hold and set it down on the floor. He reached his arm out and ruffled Kyungsoo's hair. "Don't overwork yourself."
Kyungsoo squirmed away from Jongin's touch. "I'm the older one," he muttered. Jongin laughed and went downstairs to grab more boxes.
Once Kyungsoo and his father moved all of their belongings, Jongin's mother started preparing dinner. Kyungsoo's father disappeared to his room to unpack leaving Jongin and Kyungsoo in the living room.
"Do you need help unpacking?" Jongin asked him. Kyungsoo blinked and shook his head no.
"I'll do it after dinner," Kyungsoo responded. He plopped down on the couch and turned on the TV. He surfed through the channels until he stopped at the channel playing an episode of Pororo. He set down the remote and tucked his knees into his chest. Jongin looked Kyungsoo and then at the TV screen and then back at Kyungsoo again.
"You watch Pororo?" he asked.
"Yeah," Kyungsoo deadpanned as he stared at the TV screen, "I know it's lame, but I like it."
"I never said it was lame," Jongin said as he sat down on the couch next to his step-brother. "Otherwise I would be lame."
"Didn't you say you were lame when we first met?" Kyungsoo teased. His eyes were still focused on the TV screen, but Jongin saw the smirk on his lips. Jongin pinched his side causing him to yelp.
"Boys! Dinner's ready!" Jongin's mother called out from the kitchen. They turned off the TV and sat in adjacent seats at the dinner table. Kyungsoo's father emerged from the kitchen with bowls of rice.
"How nice, you two are getting along already," Jongin's step-father commented as he set the rice in front of his sons.
Jongin's mother set down the main dish in the center of the table. Jongin reached for the food with his chopsticks only to get his hand slapped away by his mother. "Wait for everyone to sit down first," his mother scolded. Jongin pouted while Kyungsoo chuckled silently to the side. Once everyone was seated, Jongin immediately grabbed the meat and started stuffing his face.
Kyungsoo's father cleared his throat and announced, "We'll be leaving for our honeymoon in a few days. You two are going to be alone for a few weeks." He looked to Kyungsoo. "Take care of your new brother, okay, son?"
"Sure, dad," Kyungsoo replied. He looked to Jongin. "I'll make sure he doesn't get into trouble."
--
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Jongin opened his eyes and groaned. He turned to his side and slammed on the snooze button for the umpteenth time. He hugged his pillow and closed his eyes when a soft voice called his name.
"Jongin. It's time to get up," he heard. He peeked through one eye and saw Kyungsoo wearing his mother's red apron over his school uniform. Kyungsoo came over to him and shook his shoulder gently. "I made breakfast, so get ready, okay?"
"Mmm fine, hyung," Jongin lazily moaned and sat up. He looked over at Kyungsoo's face and couldn't help but notice how cute he looked in the apron.
"I'm not cute. I'm older than you," Kyungsoo retorted. Whoops, must've said it out loud. Jongin dragged himself out of bed and headed to the bathroom to brush his teeth. After washing up and changing into his school uniform, he headed down to the kitchen to see a plate of eggs and bacon already on the table. He sat down and took a small bite of bacon.
"Wow, this is good. You made this?" Jongin asked, amazed at Kyungsoo's cooking. His mother never cooked breakfast since she was always busy, so it was nice to actually have something other than cereal or toast in the morning.
"Yeah," Kyungsoo said as he sipped at his cup of tea. "I also made us lunch. Now hurry up and eat or else we'll be late." Jongin listened to him and inhaled his food. He placed the dishes in the sink to wash after school and he and Kyungsoo headed out the door.
They walked to school together without much conversation. When they arrived at the gate they both walked to their respective homeroom classes, ready to get the day over with.
Jongin wondered how and why he hadn't noticed Kyungsoo around school earlier. Jongin saw Kyungsoo sitting at his desk on the way back from the bathroom; he saw him in PE when he looked out the window during class; Kyungsoo was literally everywhere.
When he was finally let out for lunch, he grabbed the lunch Kyungsoo was nice enough to make him and bolted straight to the cafeteria. He unwrapped his lunch and immediately dug in. From the corner of his eye he spotted Kyungsoo walking into the cafeteria. He raised his hand and waved in Kyungsoo's direction, hoping he could sit with his brother during lunch. Kyungsoo seemed to notice Jongin because he waved shyly back to him, but he then turned around and walked off to some other direction. Jongin lowered his hand in disappointment.
"Jongin-ssi," a girl's voice rang. Jongin turned toward the voice and saw a pretty girl standing in front of him. "Can I talk to you for a second?" Jongin figured she was going to confess or ask him out. He was about to go with her to hear her out when he saw Kyungsoo sitting at a table. He wasn't in the mood to listen to her now.
"I'm sorry," Jongin apologized, "I'm not feeling very well so can we talk another time?" he rejected her politely. The girl nodded and walked away leaving Jongin alone with his food.
The seconds ticked by as Jongin fidgeted in his seat, wanting to get out of class and go home. He looked up at the clock. The bell had rung a few seconds ago and his teacher was keeping the class in for some reason. He peered out the window and spotted Kyungsoo's figure standing by the gate. He glanced anxiously at Kyungsoo while only half-listening to his teacher and when she finally let them go, Jongin bolted out of his seat with his bag and ran to the front gate.
Jongin caught up with Kyungsoo who had just walked past the gate and grabbed his shoulder.
"Hyuuuuung, you didn't wait for me!" Jongin playfully complained. Kyungsoo blinked. "You also ignored me during lunch."
"I waved back, didn't I?" Kyungsoo defended himself, "And sorry, did you want me to wait for you?"
"I'm messing," Jongin said and ruffled Kyungsoo's hair. "You don't have to, but now we can walk back together. Race you back home." He ran ahead of Kyungsoo, the latter shouting something about him being unfair.
For the next week, Kyungsoo and Jongin hung out a lot. They walked to school together, ate lunch together, and even wait for each other by the gate so they could walk home together. After school they would do homework, eat dinner, and watch TV. Kyungsoo was even willing to watch children's TV shows along with him and help him with his homework. In general, Jongin found Kyungsoo a really nice and helpful hyung who was really good a cooking (especially his spaghetti). He also made him smoothies which were literally the best.
One Thursday evening, Jongin was working on his math homework. He came across a tricky problem and after attempting to solve it by himself, he circled the number of the problem and muttered, "I'll ask Kyungsoo-hyung." He stood up with his notebook and textbook and headed to Kyungsoo's room.
Kyungsoo's door was open, like usual. Jongin figured he could walk into his room and ask for help. It was only after he did so that Jongin realized it was a bad time.
In front of him stood Kyungsoo facing away from the door, stepping out of his trousers. Holding his pants, he wore only his uniform shirt and a pair of white briefs. He turned around and tensed when he saw Jongin at the door.
"W-w-w-what are you doing here?" Kyungsoo sputtered as his ears turned red. He quickly covered his butt with his hands.
"Oh, uh, sorry. Can you help me with my homework, hyung?" Jongin asked nervously.
"Uh, yeah, hold on a sec." Jongin closed the door and let him change. Kyungsoo opened the door wearing a different shirt and, thankfully, pants. "What do you need help with?"
He has a cute butt, Jongin thought as he followed him into his room.

Jongin was packing up after class ended so he could meet Kyungsoo at the gate when a girl in his class, Soojung was her name, approached him.
"Hey, oppa. Can I ask you a personal question?" the Soojung asked him. Jongin zipped up his bag.
"Uh, sure?"
"Are you gay?" Jongin's face morphed into confusion. Why would someone think he was gay? Did he give off homo vibes? That hug with Chanyeol only happened once, but even then it was a total bro hug.
"No," Jongin coolly replied. He picked up his bag and walked out of the classroom.
When he exited the building, he spotted Kyungsoo at the gate talking to a girl. For some reason, seeing the girl created a nasty feeling in his stomach. He hurried over to Kyungsoo's side.
"Ready to go, hyung?" Jongin purposely interrupted Kyungsoo and the girl's conversation. He slung an arm possessively around his brother's small frame and eyed the girl judgingly. The girl stepped away from Kyungsoo. Jongin smirked at that.
Kyungsoo turned away from the girl and faced Jongin. "Oh, there you are," he said with a blank expression on his face. "See you later, Ari." He waved to Ari and she waved back slightly as he and Jongin headed home.
When they're about half way home, Jongin decided to ask, "Hey, hyung. Is that your girlfriend?"
"No," Kyungsoo answered. Jongin let out a breath of relief. "She's just a friend."
Jongin pursed his lips and clicked his tongue before pulling Kyungsoo closer to him to where he can smell the shampoo on his hair. "Hey, hyung. It's a Friday. Let's watch a movie together."
Kyungsoo made no action to push Jongin away. Instead he smiled and said, "Sure. You can pick the movie."
Jongin ad Kyungsoo arrived at the house soon after that. They both changed out of their uniforms quickly into something more comfortable and prepared to watch the movie. Kyungsoo went to the kitchen to prepare popcorn and Jongin browsed the movie collection.
Kyungsoo left the kitchen with a bowl of popcorn and two bottles of water his hands as Jongin placed the disk in the DVD player. Jongin plopped down on the couch as Kyungsoo set down the bowl and the bottles on the coffee table.
"Which movie are we watching?" Kyungsoo asked. He sat down next to Jongin.
"Is Monsters University alright with you?" Jongin asked. It was lame, but in Jongin's defense, no one was too old for Pixar movies.
"Why wouldn't it be?" Kyungsoo said and relaxed into the couch.
They ate all the popcorn about a quarter of the way through the movie. Jongin looked toward his hyung to ask him to prepare more popcorn when he noticed how close he was to him. He wrapped an arm around his brother's shoulder. Kyungsoo made no motion to get away so Jongin leaned into him.
Jongin then realized that he was really close because the smell of Kyungsoo's shampoo hit his nostrils. He inhaled his scent, a mixture of commercial shampoo and something else he couldn't quite put his finger on. Shoving the thought away, he reflected on how much he liked spending time with his new brother. He liked doing almost everything with him, even homework. Plus Kyungsoo could cook. If only he could find a girl like that.
Kyungsoo turned his head to face Jongin, their noses brushing against each other. "What do you want, Jongin?"
The next thing Jongin knew, his lips were pressed against Kyungsoo's. He pulled away only to lean forward for another kiss. Jongin felt Kyungsoo press back against his lips and he smiled. There was something about Kyungsoo's lips that felt so right. It was so exhilarating that he couldn't help himself but close his eyes and deepen the kiss, pulling Kyungsoo's head closer.
Then Kyungsoo moaned and Jongin's ego skyrocketed. He did that. Kyungsoo clutched at Jongin's shirt and Jongin continued. It was only when Kyungsoo pushed him away that Jongin finally stopped. Confused as to why Kyungsoo would push him away, Jongin looked to him and his face fell.
Kyungsoo was crying.
He watched Kyungsoo stand up and rush to his room, leaving Jongin in the living room with Mike and Sully.
--
The next few days Jongin and Kyungsoo left for school separately. They didn't eat lunch together and they didn't walk back home together either. At first Jongin thought that he didn't need to spend every minute of the day with his brother, but then Kyungsoo refused to look in his direction when he called him out at lunch. It was then he realized that Kyungsoo was ignoring him.
Jongin wasn't entirely stupid. He knew Kyungsoo was avoiding him because of the kiss they shared. What he didn't know was why. Did Kyungsoo hate it? Did he like it? Heck, Jongin didn't even know why he himself kissed Kyungsoo. He just knew it felt right.
"Hey oppa," he heard Soojung's voice call out. "Will you go out with me?"
Jongin finally processed what as being asked of him and said, "Uh, no."
"Why?" Soojung asked. "You said you weren't gay."
"I don't like you like that."
"Why?" Jongin shot her a because I don't know you look.
"I like someone else," he said. He hadn't intended on saying that. He meant to reply with a polite 'I don't see you in that way,' but what left his mouth instead shocked him. Did he like someone else? The only person who would come close to that would be....
"It's that wide-eyed guy you're always with, isn't it?" Soojung said.
That's when it hit him. He liked Kyungsoo. He liked walking to school with him. He liked eating lunch with him. He liked spending time at home with him.
He liked how Kyungsoo smelled of commercial shampoo and something else. He liked kissing Kyungsoo that night. He liked how right it felt for his lips to touch Kyungsoo's. He liked how right it felt to be around Kyungsoo in general. He liked him and judging from how Kyungsoo responded that night, the feeling was mutual. What he didn't like was how long it took for him to realize this fact.
"Yeah," he replied to Soojung.
"I figured you were gay," she shrugged off and walked away.
Kyungsoo left for home before him, so as soon as Jongin arrived home he marched up to Kyungsoo's door and knocked on the door. The door opened and Jongin immediately noticed the dark circles under his eyes. For the past few days he hadn't seen Kyungsoo, but now that he finally saw him he couldn't help but noticed how tired and stressed out he looked. He did this to Kyungsoo and he was here to make things right.
"Yes Jongin?" Kyungsoo asked with an unnatural tone in his voice. Jongin leaned down and kissed him on the lips. He smiled warmly down at Kyungsoo's now blushing face.
"That felt right," he sighed.
Kyungsoo, still blushing, demanded, "Jongin, stop. Please." Jongin ignored him and pressed their foreheads together.
"Do you want this?" Jongin breathed as he kissed the sides of Kyungsoo's face.
"Want what?" Kyungsoo exasperated.
"This." Jongin pressed his lips to Kyungsoo's temple. "Us." He kissed his forehead and wrapped his arms around Kyungsoo's narrow shoulders. "I want us and I know you want us, too." He stopped kissing Kyungsoo and looked into his eyes. "I love you, hyung. More than I should."
Tears started to fall from Kyungsoo's eyes. Before Jongin could ask what was wrong, Kyungsoo cried, "I love you, too." He wiped away his tears with sleeve of his shirt. "I tried to push away my feelings because you're my brother, but each day I loved you more and more."
Jongin shushed him and rubbed his back. "It's okay."
--
Jongin and Kyungsoo were sharing a blanket on the couch while watching an episode of Pororo when the front door opened.
"Hey, kids. How have you been?" Kyungsoo's father asked, setting down his suitcase.
Kyungsoo nodded his head, acknowledging his father. "We've been fine. How was your trip?"
"It was great," Jongin's mother piped. "We went to Venice. We went to Greece. We went all over the Mediterranean. It was fantastic!" She noticed the two sharing the blanket. "I see you two are getting along."
"Yeah," Jongin answered and held Kyungsoo's hand underneath the blanket. "We're getting along pretty well."
