Saw War of the Worlds today with Melly. It was pretty good, partially I think because I didn't know the story (never read the book, heard the broadcast, or saw the first movie). The little girl was really annoying.
So is it worth seeing? My family and I saw Batman Begins and were rather disappointed. I'm in between on War of the Worlds--L.A. Times gave it a good review, but that doesn't mean much.
The special effects were pretty good, and I think the characterizations were dynamic. I think what I liked best about it was that there was a genuine human response and not propaganda-utopia where everyone miraculously knows what to do and they all pull together. I don't know if I enjoyed it because I didn't know the story, or if the movie itself was just genuinely good. Melly remarked that she heard from someone who had read the book and didn't like the movie because of that...
