Fantasy books I recommend, sorted by author's last name in alphabetical order.
- The Darkangel Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce
A trilogy based on a fairytale/myth but with a twist.
- The Darkangel
- A Gathering of Gargoyles
- The Pearl of the Soul of the World
- Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
Imagine combining Pratchett's nuttiness with Gaiman's atmosphere and you just get awesomeness that will make your head EXPLODE. Because the world will come to an end. Yes, this book is about the end of the world, the war between Heaven and Hell and the Anti-Christ. JUST READ IT!
- The Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett
THE MAN, the one and only Terry Pratchett. He belongs to his own separate genre as he is extremely prolific and is basically the only one I know that writes at a consistent quality. The Discworld series is a parodic look at life set in a fantasy setting. By the way, Discworld is a world that is a flat disc that rests on top of a giant space turtle, which is carried by four elephants. The series has a revolving cast and depending on the main character, the supporting characters will vary. The series can be roughly divided into several different character arcs and can actually be read out of order. Usually, if one arc doesn't fit, another arc will fit. It's a pretty wild and crazy world that Pratchett has created and I wish he could live forever so that we'll always have a new Discworld novel every year.
- His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman
A really cool series about the nature of magic, the world and reality. This series actually has 2 main characters, Lyra and Will who are two kids that get caught up in some chaos that the adults create. It's definitely a coming-of-age story that is great for any age to read mostly because it's so damn interesting. But if you need a hook, this series has FIGHTING ARMORED POLAR BEARS. I am NOT making this up.
- The Golden Compass
- The Subtle Knife
- The Amber Spyglass
