Surreal little fairytale that Gaiman made up about a young man who irrationally promises a star to the girl of his dreams and then determines to get her said star. Weird but cool. There's actually several versions as there's the print book from and the graphic novel form. Currently being adapted to film although I have the feeling I'll always prefer the book...
Imagine combining Pratchett's nuttiness with Gaiman's atmosphere and you just get awesomeness that will make your head EXPLODE. Because the world will come to an end. Yes, this book is about the end of the world, the war between Heaven and Hell and the Anti-Christ. JUST READ IT!
Drenai Tales by David Gemmell
This series is plain about action, war and adventure. Not necessarily in that order. It's epic in scale but it doesn't really drag because frankly, there's not enough time to just wander around staring at the scenery. People die when they do that. My favorite is Quest for Lost Heroes and Waylander.
