I don't understand why some fans are shocked that Senbonzakura is a male.

I have never seen Byakuya's bankai as girly. Sakura petals can mean death after all.

It's a lot more scary than cute. Byakuya can be adorable (cracky-wise), but his zanpakutou? What it does is not cute.

I've always thought Senbonzakura was male. There was never really any reason to believe otherwise.

I didn't even realize there were people that thought it was female.

Well, in their defense, I guess because there are female characters in anime named "Sakura". Pink is also a really "girly" color, so people just weren't putting actual THOUGHT into it.

I've always thought Senbonzakura was male also. It just seemed odd for him to be a woman, a girly one at that.

Now, maybe I can see a woman who is reserved, cold, deadly. But I can't see it as being something cute or girly.
