As I'm sure you probably know, I'm an X-ray tech, and I would say a BIG NO. Knowing what I know about CT, I wouldn't reccommend it but as a last resort for anyone, pregnant or not. 1 CT scan is roughly the same radiation as 100 Chest X-rays, and there is no adequate shielding that they can give you. Talk to your doctor. Can they do an Echo-cardiogram instead? Is this a serious situation that needs immediate intervention/assessment? Simple Hypertension can be addressed and diagnosed in a variety of ways, a CT scan to me seems like a lazy doctor's diagnostic technique, especially in your situation where I assume there is no hx of heart disease. Bottom line, definitely talk to your doctor and exhaust every other possible avenue before doing this!
I have a history of heart disease. I have had hypertension for many years now... and with pregnancy, it can increase exponentially to cause pre-eclampsia and worse. I am being sent to a heart specialist for pregnant women to assess wether I am a high risk case or not.
No it is not. I had to get tested for many things related to my heart at 12 weeks and they told me they would need to wait for a scan until after this baby is born. It sucks because it took forever to get that appointment, but I'll deal. I just hope nothing happens during this pgncy. I havent really been taking my meds every day like I should but up til now, havent really noticed anything, except a few minor chest pains here and there which I am used to after 25yrs of heart issues (I have a hole in my heart the size of a dime, some artery blockage due to I dont know what because I dont eat much greasy stuff, and sinusal arrhythmia or whatever its called in english lol)
You need to take care of yourself... for you and for baby Sam! I will probably end up back with the heart specialist in about a months time, as they keep me in check for pre-e. :(
