Haha this is one of my favorite philosophical questions!!
I usually start by asking if a hamburger is a sandwich. What I've found is in America people generally think it is and in Australia they do not. Even though I'm usually admamantly on the American side of most debates, I have always held the view that a hamburger is NOT a sanwich, and by extension it is its own thing and if you put a chicken patty between two hamburger buns it is a "chicken burger," not, as it appears on most fast food menus in the States, a god damn "chicken sandwich."
So usually my American friends say the hamburger is a sandwich, so I move on to "is a hot dog a sandwich?" which makes them hem and haw a bit more and usually I think they in an attempt to supress cognitive dissonance say that it is. (it is NOT!)
Also, what the rotating monkey devil is a muffaletta??
A similar question I like to ask is, is pizza a pie?
