At least the intestinal parasites are an easy fix - one dose of Drontal. Are you guys going to treat the heartworms? They can do a lot of damage to the heart and lungs in the 4 years it would take them to die on their own if you decide to just simply start him on heartworm preventive. (Bear in mind, heartworm preventive doesn't do anything to adult heartworms, it simply kills off any microfilaria the dog has picked up in the month since the last dose.) Treatment involves bloodwork and radiographs to be sure not too much damage is already done, then two days of hospitalization while injections are given that will kill off the worms. Then the dog must be kept Very quiet for 6 weeks to help prevent complications while the dead worms are expelled from the heart and lungs.

Victoria Stillwell's techniques are definitely the best way to go. All positive reinforcement. Trying to mix that with the techniques taught in Petsmart might only be confusing, but the socialization may not be a bad idea.

I'm not sure about all the treatments. Our vets have always been very good with treating our dogs. I know he has some type of pill that he has to take in the morning and at night.

As I type this, my sister is telling me about Toggle's testicles (we are going to get him neutered, but the vet didn't want to do it yet). She's telling me about how they are not side by side but more one in front of the other or kinda diagonal from that direction . . . I did see them the other night.
