Laptop died!  So norton found that what was causing problems was corrupted windows files, the guy told me they fixed it and to work play on my laptop and they would call me to check on status.  They have not called yet but not much they would be able to do at this point anyway since I can't even get to the login screen ( Read more... )

I think the corrupted windows files were caused by norton because this has happened before on my desk top computer and it was something to do with the automatic back up thing fucking up the files

this is EXACTLY why i stopped using Norton. it's a common problem and no one at the company seems to give half a shit about fixing it. i've had great, wonderful success with Kaspersky and highly recommend it to anyone running windows. it's pricey, but so worth it.

i do hope your dad's computer guy can salvage the music and video files. it's always so painful to lose any files, even the ones that can be replaced. (especially since so many of the download sites are gone now.)

I thought it was a one time fluke which was obviously wrong.

I'm considering that one or avian. Avian is rated top overall but Kaspersky had top ratings for net threats which is where I seem to get nailed when I get viruses. (norton is in 8th place in consumer reports)

Actually changed my mind to bring it to Staples as they have had a better track record with my computers then dad's guy has had with my sister's and they were able to fix my desktop last time. Also Dad's guy takes forever, had my sisters laptop for a month or two. Staples typically takes about a week or so
