My roots are showing.

Hair roots or cultural roots, if I might ask?

...I work at a bakery.

Because I am a believer in law. I'm not some wild and chaotic soul who lets thought and common sense fly out the window because I get an erection. I believe in order, and such a lifestyle is definitely not orderly.

... An evil bakery, at least?

You could be the very first orderly gigolo!

My employer would disagree with you on that count, but I myself am starting to think otherwise. But I have only been here a week or so. Once I get my spells back I shall delve back into my research. That shall provide me all the entertainment I need. Perhaps you would like to see it sometime. I don't need to explain anything to you, just show you some of the results. I like to craft magic items. It kept me occupied in my world.

Erik would never let me live it down. Even if I outlived him by a hundred years, he'd come back and haunt me just to tease me about that.

I used to be excited to see other people's spells and magic items, but the past while all it's done is make me even more miserable at my own state.

... Make him a gigolo too.

Why?

He already is, somewhat. He's an assassin from my world. He did whatever he had to to get close to the mark.

Whatever he had to do. Perhaps that was why he kept making passes at me?

My wings are still clipped, let's put it that way. Seeing someone else's magic is like starving at a banquet.

What would you do if I started making passes at you?

As are mine own. It will be another three weeks, approximately, before my spells are restored. So we should be able to appreciate each other's magic by then, no?

I-- I don't know. Ask if you're paying for dinner, probably.

I can't say I really have any magic to show you... unless you're talking entirely in code here, Mr. Evil Priest.

Cheapskate.

Well, then. Perhaps my magic shall entertain me. As for the not so subtle innuendo...

Don't know. I recall hearing a conversation about something called orientation once, but really, I just see it as a matter of "who cares who you go after, as long as you're attracted to them?"

You made the pass, you can pay for dinner the first time, at least.

I'll see your magic... I like watching things. Just don't be disappointed if I seem a little jealous and moody.

I kind of agree.

But you're older.

I can teach you my magic, you know.

I am glad you do. It is ridiculous to limit your horizons in spite of mutual attraction.

Damn, you have me there.

Oh, you do that type of magic, huh. Interesting. Do I have to sell you my soul?

If I ate and ran, would you kill me?

No. Well... My spells are a result of prayers to Meder. But Meder is the Queen Goddess of Evil, and so as Hierophant of darkness I can induct priests of the other faiths. Including Cuthbert, who is Neutral, yet Lawful. So if you have a problem with being evil, you can still serve Law. It is all interconnected, law and chaos, evil and good.

There is a necessary balance to it all. I have always sought to maintain that balance.

I'd say you owe me lunch.

Ah... alignment and moral shenanigans. Such a system probably wouldn't reward switching sides and other opportunistic behavior that is sometimes essential to survival - or at least a life devoid of predictability and boredom.

If I ate and didn't run, what would I owe you?

Probably not. But there is another way. Clerics can dedicate themselves to cause. It means you worship none of my gods, yet all of them empower you. Does that make sense? Serve the ideal, not the icon.

Now that wholly depends on you.
