2020: the year of "Oh, Fuck Off."

That's how I've come to think of this hell year. The most recent "Oh, fuck off" I've given came a few minutes ago, when something ate my original post. As is always the case, I know that that post would have been much more erudite, civilized and amusing than this one. Leave it to 2020 to eat a post. Fuck you, 2020, ( Read more... )

what fresh hell, fandom, wtf, rights for everyone, meanderings, holiday fun

Happy New Year to you, my dear! And I wish I could say that at this point, 2020 was done with us. Nope; Zombie 2020 is still hanging on whilst assholes like Ted Cruz are actually going to object to Biden's win on the 6th.

*drop kicks Cruz to the coldest sections of the Canadian pine barrens, at least in her imagination*

2020 was just that kind of year...meh. And Ted Cruz...well, the less said about him, generally the better. Alas, I am not surprised. the only thing I can hope is that this version of the GOP flames itself out due to this shittery and that a better GOP arises from lessons finally learned. But that is likely a daydream and impossibility. UGH.

It does say something that what would have, on any other years, been the biggest story of the year (in United States) - the shooting for George Floyd and the resulting fallout - is overshadowed by the pandemic.

Even if this post was rawer and rantier than whatever you wrote originally, it still pretty well written. I've expressed my thoughts plenty of my own LJ, and, suffice to say, pretty much everybody wants this year gone. A change in the calendar year won't fix everything, but it will be different. And there is something to be said for enjoying the catharsis.

" is overshadowed by the pandemic."

You know, I actually think that Floyd's murder and the pandemic, and other attacks on black and brown folx, they all seemed to naturally fold into each other. In many ways this year, I've see more news sources actually start to notice the connections between health, social justice, crime, etc. and try to bring those connections to their viewers/readers, than I might have predicted even 15 months ago.

And you are so right about enjoying the catharsis.
