Dept. of Not A

So. Good Omens. Finally.

This is not going to be a case of me highlighting "Good Omens" in the headline, and then going "Ha! Fooled You! Got Nothing to Say! Ha! And again I say Ha!"

Nor, however, will it be very long. I only have one observation thus far, other than that which I said initially, and that was that this is a well-made BBC mini-series, ( Read more... )

Yeah, I really liked it. Thought it was an excellent adaptation, and enjoyed several of the themes you mentioned. But... it also hasn't changed my life. I guess a large percentage of fans absolutely adored the book first, which would of course color their love for such a great adaptation. I, OTOH, liked the book a lot and would reread it - but not every year or every month, which many fans apparently do. And of course should feel perfect freedom to continue to do.

Interestingly, a couple of people I know who fell headfirst into Big Love for the series had either read the book only shortly begfore watching, or during watching, or after watching. I don't yet personally know anyone who was a long time fan of the book.

In fact, one thing I discovered to my surprise was that there was a fairly large dedicated fan base for the book, which had persisted for the almost 30 years (!) since its publication. I probably didn't know about it for two reasons: I was one of those people who only read the book shortly before I watched the series, and I also didn't fall into Big Love with the book. I was pleased that I liked the book.

I'm actually glad I saw the mini-series first and read the book second, because I knew the bits I could skim over. I enjoyed everything with Crowley and Aziraphale (both book and series), and the kids, but most of the stuff with the witch-hunter I could take or leave.

I kind of loved the witch hunter because he was so terribly crazy - and so glad to stop being crazy at the very end. But yeah, still haven't fallen in deep love with it yet.
