I really can't commend you enough for sticking with your story for, what, ten years? That's staggering to me. Back in my early twenties, when I was first writing fanfic (and struggling to write original stuff), I had a couple of pieces that got abandoned because I'd either run out of steam and/or I'd make a major move (college to home, home to grad school, grad school back home, home to my first apartment), and whatever impetus had been there to write the story in the first place would fizzle out like a dud firecracker. I could never have stuck with something for a decade or longer. You have really demonstrated some true grit!

I also had an interesting Friday, going to see a musical play created by incarcerated teenage boys with the help of FB's Miss Em. It was sad in some ways, because I wondered how many of them would be able to escape the incarcerations/school-to-prison pipeline cycle, but I hope that some of them can do just that.
Thanks for your kind words about my progress on Hearts & Moons. I can only say that I couldn't conceive of not finishing it. I'd been able to finish my first fic, which was another long one, in a matter of a couple of years, and I kept thinking this would finish Any Day Now. Any Day Now turned into Any Year Now, but I didn't want to disappoint myself, or some of the people who kept asking about the story.
