Rock music wouldn't have been the same without him.

Yeah, he actually beat the average for a lot of the older black American musicians, many of whom only made it to their 60s or 70s. And no, rock music might never have gotten off the ground - might have become nothing but the fad some people thought it was - had he not been around.
