It is well worth reading, a reminder both of human resilience and decency, and of Japan's continuing travail and need. She has also provided a follow up comment, here at her Read more... )

Thank you for the link. I can't imagine going through that, but I'm glad she survived, even with loss.

I was amazed at how worry over her fate kept me glued to my computer in the two days after the disaster, and how elated I was to learn that she was safe - even though I've never met her in RL. I wrote at the time, "It's astonishing to realize that the Internet has this power to knit strangers together in a form of friendship that is unlike any form of friendship we've previously known. It combines anonymity and an impersonal framework with intensely personal emotional involvement. And it brings the world to us in a way we can't - and shouldn't - escape."

Thanks for the link, it's well worth reading. I think honorh might well have a future in journalism if she cares to pursue it.

If every one of us who click through leave a Help Japan vgift on her journal, it would help to make a difference.

As a reporter myself, I can tell you I was extremely impressed with her piece; there are some professional reporters who lack her ability to write cleanly, crisply and movingly, all at the same time.

And I like the idea of people clicking through to leave a Help Japan vgift on her page, or even donating directly to relief efforts in her name.

Feel free to pass on the link; has encouraged spreading this as a way of helping give Japan's disaster a human face.
