Hmm. If there's a certain action that's considered wrong because it's demeaning to women, but a woman chooses to do it because she wants to, should she be censured? Is she giving into the patriarchy or bucking it?

I think, if I woman *chooses* to do something that's considered "demeaning to women* because she wants to do it, and it's not illegal, there shouldn't be any censure. People should be able to do what they want to as long as it's not illegal.

Is this you and what is it? *asks nosily* :D

initial reaction - *thunk*

after recovering and following the link to read the news story - no harm, no foul. Here in the USA we have our own 'caste' system prejudices based on skin color or socioeconomic background and I don't like the caste system in India any better. That said, she's not "marrying" the tree as in it's her one-true-love but as a way of making her upcoming marriage more palatable in the Hindu culture so I have no problem with it.
