Wrote that weeks ago when I first watched 42. The intensity of Ten's gaze when he said "I can't lose her" just undid me and I had to write. Never actually posted it anywhere until today, though. Back then I was writing solely in French and well... well, anyway, here it is. English version coming up later.

In Torchwood, I didn't see it like he wouldn't risk his life for Rose. If you're referring to him not letting go of the lever, that is (please correct me if I'm wrong) If he had let it go, he'd have been sucked into the void - wouldn't have helped Rose at all, and it was basically suicide. In 42, he has a small chance of succeeding, and that's enough, especially since he's already lost Rose, and losing Martha (though their relationship isn't, imho, the same at all) just brings back the pain he felt in Doomsday. At least, that's how I saw things when he said, "I can lose her."

I absolutely agree with you on the Ten/Rose relationship versus Ten/Matha's, well he expressed it in Partners in Crime "he just wants A mate"... Ahem, maybe he wanted to..., sometime before he lost Rose..
(* am checking and refreshing the journal every 5 mins, cos' I was told there might be a follow-up to the Impossible serie anytime soon, am expecting it as a licensed Dr Who new ep' now, utterly true)
