Oh, Rose. Going back because he needs her - because he'll be all alone without her, and he can't do this on his own - sacrificing everything to be with him, and getting shouted at. And then this:
There’ll be plenty of time after the crisis is over for them to patch things up. They’ll win this battle, like they always do. Then he’ll grin like a maniac because he’ll be so proud of what they achieved, and he’ll hug her like his life depends on it.
That's what she thought. And it's how it always worked before. One of the things that made me even sadder about Doomsday is that she didn't even get a hug from him. The last time he touched her properly was pushing her out of the way when they landed in Torchwood. No time for a hug when he rescued her from the Daleks, no hug to say goodbye when he sent her away with Jackie, and definitely none when she came back. Not even a hug for luck before they took positions.
And, of course, no touching on the beach. :(
Lovely work, Kae, once again, even if it's heartwrenching.
And yeah, no touching at all, yet go figure why, but somehow I think it made their last goodbye even more heartwrenching. No touch. They thought they could go on for ever (or Rose thought so, anyway, even though the Doctor sensed a storm was approaching) and didn't take the time. It was just like any other battle. They were going to be all right, and together. :(

Sob, no there won't! That was lovely and beautifully written. I can totally see Rose thinking this as he sends her away. Her determination and loyalty were written all over her face even as the Doctor got angry at her (out of fear for her safety I think, and annoyance at her stubborness when he was just trying to make sure she was safe). Lovely, even if it has made me a bit sad -don't worry, I'll just think of all the hugs to come :p
that was beautiful. i envy your writing abilities. D: i love the stuff that's sad, even though it kinda gets me down.
Sometimes he reminds her so much of her first Doctor that she has to look at the boyish face and the disarrayed hair to stop seeing elephantine ears and blue eyes staring back at her. They’re the same man, just not with the same corporeal envelope. And watching him set the coordinates on his computer, his jaw tight, his gaze unwavering except for the occasional angry glance her way, she can almost hear him call her a stupid ape. i loved this bit the most. in Doomsday, i was actually reminded of Nine, when the Doctor was mad and glaring. i think you wrote this wonderfully.
