Michigan man shoots cow, claims he thought it was a coyote

From the article,

The undersheriff in northern Michigan's Benzie County says he doesn't see how anyone could confuse a 1,400-pound, pregnant cow with a coyote, which typically weighs 20 to 45 pounds.

And anyway, shooting coyotes is illegal during deer-shooting season.

Because you can't tell cows from coyotes?

;)

(or like me, the thought of being in the woods with drunk stupid people with guns is *really* frightening)

lol...it's mostly the stupid people with guns, since I figure the drunk people with guns qualify as stupid...

"My husband thought that he should go through some therapy looking at repeated pictures of cows and coyotes, because they look nothing alike," said owner DeAnn Mosher. "It didn't make any sense to me."

"...the man then tried to drag the cow home."

I don't believe for a minute this bozo confused a coyote with a cow. I believe he's an imaginative but incredibly bad liar who got caught stealing his neighbor's cow.

I don't believe him either.

But I did know a farmer growing up who painted the word "cow" on his cows in fluorescent pink paint each fall, after loosing cows repeatedly during deer season.

I wouldn't mind going hunting if I was somewhere I knew that the people I was with were sane, normal, responsible people. But I'm not going to trust the average hunter that I meet on the street without knowing whether or not they're one of the stupid ones.

Rule #1: assume the gun is loaded, and treat it as such, whether or not you've verified otherwise. Rule #2, assume that the guy next to you hasn't followed rule #1 until you verify that he has. :-)

From my years of hunting experience, that jackass is by far the exception, and not the rule when it comes to my fellow hunters. However, it should be noted that as an upland/small game hunter, I sit out the two weeks of firearm deer season (or at least I have, so far.)

If you'd like to go hunting in Michigan, you're welcome to tag along with me anytime. Be forewarned however, my brother and I tend to go deep enough into the forests and State Land that we tend not to see signs of anybody else.
