So, I'm thinking: what about a festival that's largely centered around vendors? Have a few workshops, sure...I mean, you can't shop *all* weekend, right? But then have a ton of vendors...50 maybe? Maybe more...enough to make it worth the weekend.
They have one. It's called "Body, Mind, Spirit". And Jay says the quality and attendance has declined every year.
BMS started out as a really big psychic fair. When they moved venues, their prices went through the roof (from $125 the year we went to $325 the next year). This meant only bigger companies could afford to do the show...and means that you get a ton of chiropractors, "natural medicine" quacks, and cults.
Attendance is down because vendor quality is down.
While I'll admit that cendors do sometimes get stuck into a corner somewhere, a good festival has a mixture for a reason--people show up for a variety of reasons. Shopping is a big one, but so are the workshops, plus socializing, and generally being openly pagan. If you're going tospend the time putting together this elaborate event, may as well make it a full gather. (Not that I think this is a *bad* idea, mind you...)
