Prof. M: I can't stand all these 'Gender and Sex Boundaries' students -- they'll all tell you what kinds of things they're learning just so they can say look at me, I'm so edgy, be shocked by my edginess!!

Prof. O: Pshh -- we're philosophers. We killed God. You can't out-edgy us ( Read more... )

To some extent, but I was more thinking of something with the gore of for-adults horror movies; something where chickens are forced to resort to killing the humans that would have otherwise killed them -- much as, if you are a human in a zombie flick, you must kill zombies to survive. The point is that viewers generally identify morally with members of their own species: therefore, one human is morally allowed to kill 100+ non-humans to save his own life, but a non-human is not morally allowed to kill even one human in self-defense. How does an audience react, then, if someone switches the roles on them? Who do they cheer for?

But, good point, maybe I should use cows instead.

I know exactly what you mean!! I hate scary movies with monsters because while you're in the theatre, something might make you jump because it pops out of nowhere, but later on I'm not scared to go to bed because I know they're not real. Movies with humans who go crazy are a million times scarier, I mean, just think about the people you meet on the street... I'm sure they wouldn't chase anyone around with an axe, but they're still a little spooky.

Boo monsters!

So if they made movies about other real things going crazy and murderous-rampagey, like toasters or sheep, would it still be scary? ...Man, that could be some quality cinematic shit right there.

That I don't know about... Maybe like animals with rabies or something, but again that would go back to the issue that killing 50 animals wouldn't be as horribly horribleas killing one human. Well, until PETA starts bitching.

Hahahaha, "cinematic shit," hahahahaahahahahaha.

I think everyone has some small part in them that thinks humans are scarier than anything else.
