Good for you! Best of luck with the publishers. I'm afraid I can't help you with any coding, but I hope you get some good response out of this!

One thing you could try is iframes for the images. That way, you can have a menu (text links, thumbnails, whatever floats your boat) to the side, and have the image itself open in the center iframe, without having to actually code frames. Iframes use table coding, if I recall.

I might recommend php too, if I knew anything about it. But I don't.
