It's the end of the year (meme) as we know it

Dec 30, 2013 15:12

It's the end of the year meme--back to wrap up this year. This always ends up focused in December and maybe a bit of November because my memory is crap. But it's something, and I like traditions. I did this back at the end of 2010, 2011, 2012 and now for 2103:

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
a.) Trained by running and occasionally liked it (don't tell)

b.) Redid a bathroom:
BEFORE:

DURING:

AFTER:

c.) Knit car blankets
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year's resolutions:
A. Lose the pregnancy weight. Yes!! Tho the last few pounds weren't by healthy measures but due to an awful restricted GI Diet but pshaw, I'll take it.
B. Find and stick with a good therapist Mostly! Found a guy I liked, learned a good amount, made good progress.
C. Be more present. Enjoy the burrito. This one is too vague to be a quantifiable. I think I actually did better with this. Some. Not enough.
D. Declutter (my life, my mind) Some. Again, vague. But some.
E. Gift myself time with things and activities I love (photography, reading, writing) FAIL.

Next Year:
I may be done with resolutions. It never works out for the whole year, or for very long at all. I know what I need to do. I don't know that I'll do it. Sigh. Maybe me resolution should be to put up signs around the house reminding me of what I need to do. I am so becoming my mother.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not super close, but baby Elizabeth was born to Annie, and baby Teagan to Corrine.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thank goodness no.
5. What countries did you visit?
Does Skype count? We were here. Went as far as the Adirondacks I think.
6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
Calm, peace, freedom from worry. I wish for this every year.
Financial security, patience.
7. What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
11/27/13, first steps.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
We survived the year.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Stephen says I had "setbacks," not failures. So kind. I think he means anxiety, hypochondria, etc. I regularly feel like a failure as a wife, a mother, a worker, but mostly I get over it.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Continued postpartum recovery. On and on and on. Some GI annoyances. Nothing dangerous thankfully.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Tub and Roomba.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
So many. Which is sort of the same as nobody. Lame answer. If I think of something better I'll edit.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Politicians, mostly republicans. Woot, I'm all set with your "customer service" as well.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Down the drain, ha!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Taking a bath, with a whiskey sour and the iPad.
16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
Royals (Lorde) Carry On (Fun, even though it was technically 2012), I've Got Your Love to Keep Me Warm (Billie Holiday)
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
- happier or sadder? HAPPIER! YAY!
- richer or poorer? Poorer, dang.
- thinner or fatter? Thinner.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Zumba, acting rather than delaying, being in the moment, having sex, swimming, laughing, stretching, thanking
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worrying, binge eating at night
20. How did you spend the holidays?
Christmas Eve was recovery from stomach bug/food poisoning/whatever. Christmas was excellent. Eliza woke around 7:30 and we snuggled in bed until G woke at 8, then we snuggled some more. Downstairs for stockings and Santa gifts, and G gave us gifts for us. Breakfast, then more gift opening. Then Eliza napped and we watched The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Then Steve's fam came over and it was a lovely, lovely visit. Presents with Auntie Sarah, Uncle Huw and Cousin Thomas and Grammy & Grandpa. Nice meal of roast beast. Good family time. Great day.
21. Did you fall in love in 2013?
Yes, with my growing baby girl. She charmed me up and down.
22. How many one-night stands?
Seriously, this is a weird question. 37.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
Gray's Anatomy, Project Runway, HIMYM, Sons of Anarchy, Top Chef
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.
25. What was the best book you read?
I wasn't especially impressed with most I read, and in fact left more books unfinished this year than in all my years combined I think. Need to get back on track for 2014.
26. What was your favorite film of this year?
Gonna go with Monsters University. I'm pretty sure it is the only movie I've seen this year.
27. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Does this fit today? I seem to change size daily, up and down. Also, generally nursing tank + something. I wore a bra twice this year.
28. Whom did you miss?
I still miss Bobbie often, and Mimmie too. One of Guthrie's recent super power requests was that he could take a step and be anywhere, like take a step and you are in Hawaii with your cousins. And if you are holding hands, you can take other people with you. I'd like to have this to grab a drink with my oldest most long-time friends.
29. Who was the best new person you met?
Kidan, Tabby and usually Alex ;), Carolyn, Kerry
30. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
Google is a worse doctor than Dr. Nick. "Hi everybody!" "Hi Dr. Google!" Shut up, internet.
