I played around this evening with pushing my camera in very low light, to get a feel for what my limits are without use of a tripod or flash. I made this photo of my dog:

Did you actually manage to hand-hold for 1/4s?
Also, how'd you do your grayscale conversion? Just a desaturate, or playing with color channels?
What gear you got now? Still the Rebel? (I'd look at your EXIF tags, but I'm lazy. :P)

Yes, laying with my elbows on the ground for stability.
For this one I just used the black-and-white button in iPhoto.
I've just upgraded to a Rebel XT, hence the low number in the image filename.
