This is why I hate switching for gauge. The jacket I want to knit calls for a gauge of 21 stitches and 23 rows over 10cm on 5mm needles.

On 5mm needles I get 26 stitches and 23 rows over 10cm.

On 4.5mm needles I get 22 stitches and 20 rows over 10cm.

I can either use 5mm needles for a jacket that's the right length but baggy, or 4.5mm needles for a ( Read more... )

Have you blocked the swatches? They might grow a little when blocked. And/or you could see if aggressively blocking the smaller one gives you the right gauge.
