I am going to be at SearchCamp.in this weekend. If you would like to attend please register here by adding your name. You can provide additional information about yourself or your company here.
Hi Srikanth, The event was great, well focused and good participation. Given my interest in the space I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were quite a few interesting discussions - have lots of opinion to present. However I am a bit held up at work - don't know when I can pull myself out for a blog post. Will update you.
301 for the new url of the same site

Hi In the searchcamp Q&A session someone( I guess You) asked this question “My friend has changed url, do he has to give 301 for the new url of the same site?.” I have answered that "yes he should", and somebody including you :) wondered about that answer. Those who wondered about that answer, please see the reasons below If you change url , the search engine wont immediately reflect the change in its index. When ever user come with his query the old page will be ranked and the user will be landed in a 404 or an error page . If that particular page has back links you cant pass that trust (both link juice and age) of that page to the new page with out providing 301 redirection. Some times you need to wait for a long time it can be 2 weeks or more . But this is the reliable method in my perspective. You can still get the rank for the required keyword to your new page with out doing 301 but you will be facing the above problems consequently and it may take much time than the 301 process. Hi JAX, Thanks for digging my blog out and responding to me. I greatly appreciate it :). However, I am not able to relate your name to face - help me recognize if you think we both interacted.
Anyway I think as you have explained he wanted to avoid 404s and hence took the redirection way. However the site traffic has not picked up yet.

Great post!ext_139130December 20 2008, 18:01:54 UTC
Great post! i especially found it useful where you started. Most people that use search engines use only the ten top search results in the first page. Making it to the first page, more so to the top three is a barometer of a sites success in search engine optimization. You will get a higher ratio of probability in being clicked on when you rank high. The more traffic for your site, the more business you rake in.
But, it is essential to grab a hold of that spot or make your ranking even better. As I aforementioned, each day is a new day for all e-commerce sites to make them selves rank higher using search engine optimization. It is imperative to make your site better and better everyday.
So just what is search engine optimization and do you have to use it? The answer to why you have to use it is an easy one. You need search engine optimization to be number one, or maybe at least make your site income generating.
