Unless this is a person you know really well (I get the impression it's some random internet person?), you should really just tell them off that way. Then again, if it is someone you know really well, you should still tell them off, but probably nicer, like, "I really appreciate the help, and I don't think you mean it this way, but it's really offending me the way you say these things. Can you stop?" Or something nicer than that.
They're your kids. No one else's. Thus, only you have a say, not someone on the internet.
