Neither of us can remember -- it was quite a while ago. We didn't live together full-time until about 12 years in, so that has to be a factor.

Having a system like this makes everything easy. No dithering or deciding about what to have or who does what.
It also helps us keep track of the days of the week (it also helps that each day has its own set of coffe/tea mugs).

Also, note Gertrude's "seam" -- she's been repaired more than once (she's over 30 years old, so she has an excuse).
She's from France, but somehow has this rather Germanic-sounding name. I claim she's actually Alsatian.
Hildegard, her Cambridge cousin, is somewhat younger.
