In all my years of poetry including a large amount of time spent in college writing workshops, the best poems/stories I wrote were the ones that kind of flowed out. Yes, I would go back and edit a bit but for the most part the original text was mainly intact.
Now, i'm not saying that every poem that "flowed out" was great. I just wrote a lot so I had more to choose from.
There have also been poems that I struggled to finish and turned out like shit.
