I have a sign over my desk:

Meetings: The practical alternative to work.

That entirely depends on the sort of meeting it is. Sometimes there really is no substitute for putting the people who need to talk in the same room -- virtual or otherwise -- and having them hash out the stuff they need to cover.

Today, for example, I spent a little over an hour waiting to talk and never got the chance during meeting #1 (which was mostly a status update anyway), but during meeting #2 we addressed a fair number of misconceptions and came up with a few good ideas.

You know, a gentleman never brags about how many inches he has.

Er... isn't the staff meeting overlapping the client team status meeting?

yes. I show up when I can, cuz usually it involves specific promotions rather than infrastructure.

Around here it's not unusual for people to spend their 8 hour workday in meetings and the do their real work at home, so I'm not that impressed by your 3.5 hours of meetings.

I think you should just get the doughnuts, then head back home and eat them. Claim a blizzard has sealed shut your parking lot.
