That entirely depends on the sort of meeting it is. Sometimes there really is no substitute for putting the people who need to talk in the same room -- virtual or otherwise -- and having them hash out the stuff they need to cover.
Today, for example, I spent a little over an hour waiting to talk and never got the chance during meeting #1 (which was mostly a status update anyway), but during meeting #2 we addressed a fair number of misconceptions and came up with a few good ideas.
Around here it's not unusual for people to spend their 8 hour workday in meetings and the do their real work at home, so I'm not that impressed by your 3.5 hours of meetings.
