Is it so wrong to enjoy nothing?

Food really has that magical ability to change your mood. I guess let me backtrack to yesterday. I was feeling sick, but I still came home despite expecting to be nagged at by my parents for "Not taking care of myself, and letting myself get sick." But it turned out dad made a huge pot of Pho, and it was really good, and hit the spot in terms of my ( Read more... )

(watch as I single-handedly butcher multiple Asian cooking genres)

Pho is Vietnamese ramen, more or less. And when I say ramen, I mean real ramen, and not "searching my backseat cushions for money because I'm hungry" ramen.

A very valiant effort, and actually I would say it's a very good comparison, though ask any noodle connoisseur and they'll tell you they're two totally different things.

Simply put, Pho is a beef noodle soup. There are three basic parts.
1.) Rice Noodles
- Are made from rice flour, and are a bit translucent. They can vary in width, but generally, pho noodles are about the size of thin spaghetti.

2.) Broth/Soup
- The broth is made by cooking soup bone in a mixture of water, onions, ginger root, star anise, and various other southeast asian spices. Pho takes awhile to cook. For my dad, it's an overnight cooking process.

3.) Beef
- Thin slices of beef from various parts of the cow go into it.

There are also other variations on pho, like pho ga (chicken pho), or pho an chay (pho without meat, but still unfortunately cooked in some form of animal stock). Either way around, it's a really good meal when you're feeling sick.

Have you tried pho, Drew? And if not, have you been to Yutaro in New Orleans (a real ramen shop.)

And I love your U.S.E. photos!

haha. LBC represent!

Anna, you're too cool, and I don't know what I'd do without you.

Oh wait, maybe I do know what I'd do. I'd cook myself pumpkin pancakes to make myself feel better.

But hey, as much as I heart pumpkin pancakes, I still think that Anner P. > Pumpkin Pancakes
