Bon Temps, Louisiana [Thursday]

By the time everyone's portal arrived on the 23rd, Sookie's house was resplendent in typical middle class Christmas joy. She'd baked several more batches of cookies since the prior day, there were garlands wrapping the banisters of her porch, and the tree in the living room was lit up brightly, making the packages below it sparkle a bit ( Read more... )

After greeting Sookie and making serious inroads in the cookies and fudge, Karla came out to hang her ornaments on Sookie's tree. "Kiss kiss," she told Raven, dropping a kiss on Raven's cheek. "Merry Christmas!"

"Merry Christmas," Raven said, giving Karla a kiss back. "I am so very happy to be spending the holidays with friends this year." And hopefully that would help chase away the growing darkness inside her.

"I'm just glad to be spending Christmas anywhere that isn't the inside of an oubliette," Karla said a little wryly. "Getting to be here with all of you is just an added bonus!"

Raven was trying not to think to much on the labyrinth and how it had provoked such darkness in her. She'd still been struggling since then, but she wasn't about to let it ruin the holiday if she could do anything to help it.

"I am hopeful there will be no vampires to disrupt the holiday," she said. "Or a need to wear skimpy clothing."

Whereas Karla was determined to laugh at it until it stopped scaring her at night.

"I'm only agreeing with you on that last one," Karla agreed with an impish grin, "because Sookie made sure to split up all the couples. Otherwise..." she trailed off to waggle her eyebrows at Raven and laugh.

Raven's face turned oh-so-very red. "We would not...that would be rude," she tried to protest.

Very tempting, though.

"Doesn't Sookie have an attic?" Karla continued to tease. "No one would even have to know..."

"That would probably not be very comfortable," Raven murmured. Besides, they were surrounded by people with telepathic powers and they projected a lot to one another. They'd know.

"I'm sure there's an uncluttered wall up there somewhere that would suit," Karla teased.

Trying to see how many different shades of red Raven could blush was an endearing pastime, okay?

For a moment Raven was puzzled, wondering why a wall mattered at all. But there'd been a few scenes in Rumor Gal involving people being pressed up against walls, and she figured it out. "Walls? Oh! We...have not done anything like that."

She went for a classic "crimson" for her cheeks this time.

Oh, that was a good one. Not quite the elusive 'brick,' but one couldn't argue with the classics.

"First time for everything?" Karla suggested in a stage whisper, darting ostentatious glances Jono's way. "Call it an early Christmas gift?"

Incorrigible, thy name was Karla.

"Do you think he would like it?" Raven said, still trying to sort out the logistics of it in her head. She had some idea at least, and she found it intriguing.

"All my romance novels suggest he will," Karla said, amused now that Raven was actually considering it. "As do several of the manuals in 'Dite's shop. Would they lie?"

And if it were true, Karla was going to have yet another reason to be grateful that her boyfriend had incredible upper body strength from all that flying he did.

"They are fiction, Karla," Raven said. Her blush had faded to somewhere around "terra cotta." "But I suppose the authors would research such things before writing them, would they not?"

She hoped they would to keep the stories at least a little probable. Some of the Rumor Gal fan fiction she'd read had clearly been written by people who had little idea of what they were writing about. Or they were contortionists.

"It'll be terribly depressing if they didn't," Karla said, leaning back to rest her head on Raven's shoulder. "I guess it's up to you to find out."

Scarlet!

"I cannot possibly find out if everything is accurate," Raven protested. She had classes! And work! And they'd get tired! "Why is it up to me?"
