Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's not awesome.

I watched the Pilot of "Elementary" last night. I really enjoyed this first episode. Liked Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu separately and together (in a non shippy way) and I'm looking forward to seeing how their friendship develops and progresses. I especially liked the scene when he “deduced” what her background was and the final scene was really ( Read more... )

Smash could be better, but I think they wasted a lot of their potential. Love Derek/Karen, but you know that already.

Yeah, I like it well enough but I don't love it. Now I've seen more episodes I can definitely see the Derek/Karen stuff you mentioned before.

As far as the whole Elementary vs Sherlock thing that's going around I think it's a bit not good as John would say. They really can't be compared. Other than Elementary having a character named Sherlock and that he's a bit quirky, it really doesn't have a Sherlock Holmes feel to me. So it's like comparing apples and oranges. That said, I like it for what it is. I quite adore JLM and have done for ages. It was rekindled a bit after seeing Frankenstein so I was quite excited to see his turn on the detective. In a way, and I mean in the best way, he sort of reminds me a little bit of Alex O'Laughlin (maybe it's the hairy?LOL) I does seem to be getting better to as it goes along. From what I understand it's getting good ratings in the US as well, they just ordered a full season right?

I agree and that's exactly why I didn't make comparisons when commenting on or watching "Elementary". They were always gonna be different anyway - "Sherlock" is 90 minutes with an almost film like storyline whereas "Elementary" is a 45 minute procedural (with a quirky lead. Kinda link things like "Monk" or even "Psych"). I don't see why they should be in competition with each other, like you said, apples and oranges.

I really enjoyed "Elementary" for what it is (and not what it isn't). I've heard that it gets better as it goes along which is good because I really enjoyed the pilot episode. Jonny Lee Miller is a really good actor (he was brilliant in "Dexter") and I think he plays the role really well. I can see why he reminds you a little of Alex O'Loughlin - maybe it's the tattoos?
