My Life is About as Interesting as a Box of Saltine Crackers

Nothing has really happened in my life as of recent. It seems like all I am doing is living out the same day, extended and never-ending. Yeah, the only thing of real interest is that there were a couple of small crisises at the homestead and for the last week, my folks and I have been dogwatching Mia (which Mia, is the Boston Terrier/Jack Russell ( Read more... )

I am so jealous that you're able to just write. My problem is exactly the same problem you had-- too much structure. Unfortunately, I can't seem to snap out of my perfectionism, so I stop every couple of sentences, re-read the WHOLE thing and re-write what sounds off. :/ All it's done is cause a lot of ideas to go wasted, but I can't help it so KUDOS TO YOU, BB. :)

All-in-all, I'm glad that you're writing and that it's going so well for you! :DDD I'M SO EXCITED AT HOW MUCH YOU HAVE WRITTEN! <3

Thank you for all the kind words. I really do appreciate it! With just writing, I mostly just had to shut it off. It took a long time for me to break that habit, but, I know how that feels. I think that's one reason why I really don't touch poetry. I'll break mid-sentence and be like "that sucks."

Thanks again, though!

Congrats on the novel progress :)

I think there's a lot to be said, especially with first drafts, for just letting it go and writing whatever comes into your head. Structuring can be handy at times, but like you I generally find it inhbits me more than anything else- I shift to a focus on structure for the second draft (and beyond).

One thing though, I really don't like talking about my ideas on the internet.

I can totally respect that. While I do tend to talk fairly openly about my ideas, I'm also only comfortable doing so in a fairly closed circle (my f-list is predominantly made up of people in my crit group, who already see my work anyway). Plus, IDK, paranoia is valid a lot of the time- I had someone on my f-list (not the current one) plagiarise part of a scene I was working on for their shitty fanfic and...yeah, I'm really wary these days.

I think that was what my problem was in the past. I would script everything before I ever sat down for a first draft and, by the time I would write that said first draft; I'd lose interest. Doing it this way, makes it so much more challenging, interesting, and yes, fun. I agree with you on second drafts, structure is so important there.

Oh my god... I would be so pissed off if that had happened. That to me is actually a really unforgivable thing, because it's just... so damned wrong. Yeah, not exactly a most intelligent response, but, that just goes right through me. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

And thanks for the congrats!
