They were in the dark woods. Both realized how cliche this was, but they were demons after all. Such things couldn't be done out in the daylight.
"How did I do?" Liam smirked at Shade, his fingers still buzzing with power. His heart was pounding from the feel of the kill.
"Oh, you're bad," Shade nodded with a small smile. "You're learnin', buddy."
Liam smiled. "So how long before their boss comes to find us?"
"Won't be long," Shade said, shaking his head. He looked down and kicked at the charred ground where the three demons had fallen and gone up in smoke. "He's not one to take things like this calmly."
"And then we confront him?"
"Yea, then we confront him. C'mon, let's get somewhere less open if we're gonna discuss this." He shoved his hands in his pockets and turned around to Liam, ready to blink back to the place they were staying in for the time being.
Liam tilted his head and a look of concern came over his face. "Shade? What.." Liam watched Shade's skin go pale before Shade even knew what was happening. Then Shade fell to his knees.
Pain shot through Shade. A level of pain he hadn't felt since having his soul ripped from his body, but not quite as much. His hand gripped over his heart as it pounded in his chest and his eyes squeezed shut. Liam jumped back slightly in surprise. Shade started groaning, then his groans got louder and deeper. His body fell forward into the dirt and he writhed around, hugging himself from the pain.
"Shade!"
"I..I can't blink," Shade barely managed to speak. He was trying to get the hell out of there, somewhere more descreet, but he couldn't. Another sharp cry came from his lips.
Liam jumped forward, no idea what was going on and scared, and grabbed Shade's arms. He centered himself and focused on the loft to blink them out of there. Once back, he set Shade on one of the beds and looked around. "What's going on, Shade? What do you want me to do?"
Shade couldn't answer. He was curled up again, shaking. He turned over to face the wall and let out a loud and long scream against the pain shooting through his body.
