This new arrival could be Kaito or Shinichi, the hair halfway between Kaito's messiness and Shinichi's combed down flatness. He's quite obviously carrying a gun strapped to his hip, a small-calibre weapon in a well-cared for holster. There are other weapons secreted on his person, not quite as obvious. Some are as simple as a knife kept up one ( Read more... )

This Kaito (several years older than many of his counterparts in the mansion, he had found) had positioned himself in one of the chairs in the lobby, feet propped up on a coffee table as he skimmed through (yet another) book on hieroglyphics. Said book is propped lazily in his lap as he watches the new arrival with one eyebrow quirked. Looks like Kudo... wait, no, looks like me?

Dresses like them. Unless he's just trying to set a new fashion trend.

"Lost?" His tone was curious, demeanor deceptively relaxed as he lounged back in his reading chair, elbow resting on the arm and chin in his hand.

The box of Pocky disappeared back into Kaito's pocket, and he leaned back in his chair, folding his hands behind his head as the cookie balanced precariously on his lips. He quirked an eyebrow at the newcomer, unsure how much of his story to believe.

"Inter-dimensional nexus," he repeated, "You can't think they exist on your world only?" And then, as an afterthought, "And if you are with the FBI, I'm still not one of you."

"People who find out about Them end up dead. And here, children know without consequence." Flat tone, someone who knows exactly what those consequences entail. Focused entirely on the mystery before him, blue eyes dark and serious.

"And yet there are several people here who do know about Them," Kaito answered, but the unspoken threat did not escape him, "And are still alive."

He shifted slightly in his seat, the movement serving to reveal his own weapon strapped against his waist. He wasn't unarmed. If you move, I move.

"How? I've been chasing-- fighting Them since I was ten--" his voice cracks slightly and he shakes his head angrily. "So many people have died. Why do these people here know? Why does a child know?"

Age ten? If the story was true, Kaito could sympathize; he had been trained for something similar since the young age of nine, after all. Granted, it had been tomb raiding, but raiding with a higher goal in mind.

"It's different on every world," he reminded the newcomer, "Remember that."

"It can't be that different if everyone I've met has accused me of being one of Them. Now tell me," he said firmly. "Do you know why a child, can't be more than seven - he called himself Edogawa Conan - how is it possible that he knows, and is still alive?"

He wasn't going to let Kaito get away without answering. A yes or a no, he wanted explanations for this; for the blue eyes and the attitude that was all wrong for a child.

"Edogawa Conan doesn't exist on my world," Kaito answered honestly, "So no. I can't."

Kudo's secrets weren't his to tell, after all.

He half-turned, running a hand through his hair in aggravation. Turning back, mouth open to snap, he stopped himself forcibly, took a deep breath, and turned again, walking away a few steps.

"Tell me how you know, then," he requested. "From the people here? From interactions on.. your world?"

He was worried. Not all of that had been an act, and that meant he was starting to slip. It's happening sooner than last time, he thought to his double. Hurry. Hurry up and be beside me where you're supposed to be.

He looks flustered now, Kaito made the mental note to himself as he observed, Is this really taking him off guard that much?

"From my world," Kaito answered, though he didn't offer any details, "I knew about them before I came here."

"How did you get away with that knowledge?" He's curious; this is something he won't lie about, not this, not when it hits so very close to home. His 'act', his persona, is needlessly close to who he really is, but he's off balance already. He has to know. He needs to.

"They don't just let people walk away."

"Of course they don't," Kaito responded, vague as ever, "But that doesn't mean it's impossible." He, among several others just form his world, were living proof of this.

That tone-- almost demanding. This guy really wanted to know.

Which was even more incentive for Kaito to keep it to himself, whether They were involved or not.

"Wouldn't. You. Like. To. Know."

"Yes. I would." Utterly calm, utterly immovable. He didn't reach for the gun on his hip, but there was no need to. The other Kaito had to know how dangerous he was, how prepared he was to act.

"Why?" Kaito asked, "If you're really with the FBI, why is it that important?"

He didn't believe the FBI story. He wouldn't, not with the way this guy was acting. He was aware how many dangerous lines he was on the verge of crossing. But for a raider who made a living off of dodging snipers and avoiding death traps (both and home and in the work place), he wasn't afraid.
