Golf??

The best Bush could do to show his solidarity to the grieving nation was to give up golf.

Tamora Pierce says it best here.

I can't get the video on MSNBC to load, but I hear-tell it's a good watch.

I'm not going to tell you what I think. Like I said, Tammy said it best, and my version would just be lots of swearing.

I'm sorry, you lost me at "Tamora Pierce has a livejournal." How did I not know this?

She has two, actually. I forget which is which, but they're both awesome. And I only found her through the White List. There's also a Tamora Pierce LOLCats community. All are linked in my profile.

It makes me giggle. Then it makes me sad. Then it makes me angry. Thank you, Mr. Bush, for giving up golf! It gave me a chance to go through the full range of emotions in only a few minutes!

As much as I love to hate on Bush, and believe me I do... the person interviewing asked him the leading question of "You haven't been golfing in a few years, does that have anything to do with Iraq?" and what I discerned from Bush's response was that golf was one of the things he gave up. Not that golf was his one and only sacrifice... but that he made some sacrifices to show solidarity with America and gave up things he loved to focus on the war. I think the better point to be made would be "What about things like the Press Association dinner?" -- where he laughs and hobnobs with celebrities... appearing on the game show "Deal or No Deal"... and he STILL takes an obscene amount of vacation time. I think that's what people should be focusing on pointing out rather than mincing words with the golf comment. ugh... I just can't wait for the elections, but the cynic in me thinks that even that won't be a good outcome.

I see your point. And I'm also fearing the outcome of the election.
However, it's the way it's phrased: "I feel I owe it to the families to be as - to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal."
I just can't see how not playing golf equals "solidarity as best I can." I mean, I'm sure he gave up other things, but it's not mincing words - it's what he said. But yes, people should be focusing on other topics... golf, in the long run, is entirely unimportant. Hence why his comment is so entertainingly stupid.
Our attentions should be elsewhere. It's just hard to ignore something like this.
